Folk duo Kyra and Tully are pleased to release their latest EP, Songs for the Universe. Written and recorded in Prince Edward County from 2021 through 2024, (except On the Farm (2018) the album is the couple’s sixth studio release. Co-produced by David James Allen and mastered by Martin Davis Kinack, Songs for the Universe features new music inspired by the beauty of nature, exploring how it shapes and reflects the human experience.

These songs delve into the unknown possibilities in the future of humanity, meditating on the hard but rewarding work ahead of us all to move from hopelessness towards a future with light, love, truth and intrinsic dignity

Songs for the Universe is a dynamic production that layers thoughts, sounds, and emotions with wonder and thankfulness. The album is a diverse collection of songs created by a husband-and-wife duo exploring the world around them with heartfelt words set to roots and pop melodies.

Songs for the Universe features the single Deer in the Headlights (release date: February 20, 2025), which includes contributing vocals from singer-songwriter Justin Rutledge.

“Deer in the Headlights was written in the middle of the pandemic after our plans to travel across Canada in a camper van to promote our then-new album, Time, were thwarted. We had already sold our house in Kingston to fund the tour, so we found ourselves scrambling to find somewhere to live,” says Kyra Walker. “At the time, travelling was inappropriate, especially with our adult son who is considered medically fragile due to a rare genetic condition. Settling in Prince Edward County but wanting to protect our son’s health at a challenging time, we soon found ourselves struggling with feelings of isolation and despair. But there were gifts, too: one was a new place to call home that we love, and another was this song, which is about being frozen in a state between fight and flight – sometimes called ‘fawn’.”

Kyra and Tully have toured and played shows in Canada, USA and Europe. They have appeared at a number of festivals and showcases including Canadian Music Week, North by North East, Brampton Indie Arts Festival, Skeleton Park Music and Arts Festival, and the Elphin Roots Festival. They have also shared stages with Bruce Cockburn, Jenn Grant and Matthew Barber, among others.

Kyra and Tully’s music has been featured on television (DeGrassi the Next Generation) and on CBC radio, and the duo has been profiled in many newspaper and magazine articles. Their music is also included on compilation albums, including Artists for the Algonquin Artists Against Uranium Mining.
